The project scope included complete renovation of Level 2 West, North, and Level 3 West of the Misericordia Community Hospital in Edmonton. A spring 2014 flood on the 3rd Floor caused significant damage to the 3rd and 2nd Floors. Both floors required abatement, demolition, and replacement of architectural, mechanical and electrical features and systems. All work was completed within a fully operational hospital. CSA Z317.13-12 Infection control during construction standards were strictly followed throughout the duration of the project.
Roughly 30,000 sq.ft of construction area in Level 2 West, North, and Level 3 West was taken to base structure and completely rebuilt. 2nd floor is a Mental Health unit with ECT suite, nursing desk, single and double patient rooms, kitchen, fitness room, group rooms and staff offices. The 3rd floor is neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) which has single, double and opportunity for triple patient rooms. Additionally, on the 3rd floor is family room and support offices.
An emergency generator was added outside the footprint of the building and an Air Handling Unit (AHU) and new roof was added to Misercordia Hospital North wing. Ductwork connections from the AHU to the 2nd and 3rd floor ran through the exisiting penthouse into the 2nd floor and was distributed to the 3rd floor space. A building envelope investigation was conducted during the course of the project, Delnor worked with trades and design to develop a scope of work which would provide cost effective improvements to the exisiting failing envelope. Envelope improvements were completed from 2nd floor to top of 8th floor parapet.
The project required dedicated focus on construction progress, ability to adapt to changes in scope and ongoing commitment to maintain hospital Infection control standards.
