Description

This project consisted of an expansion to the existing Blackfalds Multiplex Arena. The scope included demolition of the existing surface outdoor ice sheet and constructing a new arena addition with bleachers and a library component. Also included was the modification and upgrades to the existing ice plant to increase capacity. New mechanical and electrical systems, as well as new infrastructure for the new building components were installed; this included incorporating a larger electrical service. 

We partnered with a local pre-cast partner to utilize precast concrete on all the columns, raker beams, and bleachers. Select exterior walls and hollow core slabs were also done out of pre-cast concrete. On the east end of the rink, the columns were pushed back further into the lobby and cantilevered with a steel brace welded back to the column.
